Conservation Issue

The Cockscomb Basin in Belize encloses 425 square kilometres of subtropical wet forest within the Maya mountain range of Southern Belize. In 1990 it was given sanctuary status and is now one of the most important refuges for the Jaguar. FOC is delighted have supported (with the help of the Simpson Education & Conservation Trust and the Lindeth Charitable Trust) scientist Rebecca Forster in her study that will give a better understanding of the natural ecosystem.

Wildlife


The rich carnivore communities of the tropical forests of Central-America depend on the numerous prey species and yet the small mammal community, a potentially rich prey base, is little known. The small mammals found in this area is incredibly diverse but are vastly understudied.
